Serving with Crosslinks in Johannesburg, South Africa

Bethany soperBethany grew up at St Leonards Church and became a Christian when she was 18. After sixth form she trained as a nursery nurse. In 2012 Bethany went on her first overseas mission trip to Uganda with St Leonards church which instilled in her a desire to serve God more wholeheartedly. This led her to serving for 10 months at a children's village in South Africa as a Crosslinks short term volunteer in 2013. From 2014-2016 Bethany served as a Ministry Assistant at St Leonards Church helping with youth and children's work. Bethany has been struck by the needs in Africa for faithful bible teaching, gospel workers and practical help.

Bethany has been based at Hope Church, Auckland Park serving with the youth and children since July 2017. Since arriving Bethany has been involved in Church Sunday School, toddlers groups, after-school clubs and youth camps. She has also started to lead a small group bible study with girls aged 11-13 from the youth group studying the book of Esther. Bethany also hopes to be able to go into local schools to share the good news of Jesus in assemblies and lunchtime clubs.

Bethany plans to work at Hope Church for two years, using the skills and experiences that God has given her to serve the local community. She longs to grow in the knowledge and love of God herself, and explore whether God might be leading her to serve him in overseas mission long-term.

Give thanks for:

  • The new bible study group for girls and how hungry they are for Gods word.
  • Continued growth in relationships with one another and the Lord Jesus.
  • Faithful teaching of the bible at Hope Church and at the various Kids Camps that have taken place.
  • The successful appointment of a new children’s worker.

Please pray for:

  • Continued close relationship with the Lord.
  • The children continue to grow in their love and knowledge of the Lord Jesus.
  • Additional volunteers coming from the UK in January 2018 to help with children’s and youth work.
  • Opportunities to serve and build relationships with the children, families and members of the church.
